Enjoy following along with your travels. With your last visit to Manitowoc, I found the mention of WW2 submarine construction interesting. Ordered the book Fresh Water Submarines, the Manitowoc Story…by Adm. William T. Nelson..(amazon)….Excellent read. They came up with an excellent solution to getting finished subs down the Miss River to the Gulf, where channel was only 6′ in sections..

Manitowoc has meaning to me. In 1943, my father was weapons officer for the USS Pogy, one of the 20 submarines built in Manitowoc. He was on the Pogy from the very beginning, then six patrols near Japan and the Philippines.
